Mini-HymnPosium for Baylor Church Music Students
While in central Texas (February 18) for another project meeting, our traveling road show – HymnPosium – staged a shortened version for Baylor church music students. We think it is important to receive the input from and share project information with the next generation of church musicians and, hopefully, hymnal users.
A dozen graduate church music students, three faculty members, and several local ministers gave us their input about inclusive language, our title, and the online component. They wanted us to articulate how the Celebrating Grace Hymnal project is different from some other recent and current hymnal projects. They were very interested and especially complementary of our plans for online supplemental music resources – orchestrations, accompaniments for keyboards and handbells, and our congregational materials. One student mentioned his appreciation for the thoughtful approach being taken in developing the hymnal; the sentiment was echoed by several others. It is particularly gratifying to be affirmed by the next generation of church musicians.
