Inspired by the annual Vienna Philharmonic's New Year's Concert, Martha Lynn Thompson's arrangement of "Pizzicato Polka" by Josef and Johann Strauss, Jr., is to be performed entirely using mallets — bells on the tables — with an optional C6 handchime and tambourine. The orchestral piece is traditionally played with a subtle "bending" of the tempo that can be grasped by listening to or watching a performance of the original piece performed by the Vienna Philharmonic.
