"As a dove, as a flame and as a wind," the mystery of the Holy Spirit is portrayed with the pensive line of the clarinet and a dynamic progression ultimately moving into the final key change and the strength-filled third verse. Much of the setting is in unison with only the second verse in four parts. While "contemplative" is marked for the minor-keyed anthem, it is a firmly stated, yet thoughtful musical setting. The clarinet obbligato is the "crown" of this anthem.
