Verses 1 & 2 tell the story of the angels and shepherds, while verse 3 applies the story to our present day. On the final chorus, an optional second part adds harmonic interest and challenge. As the piece comes to a close, the final two words of the Ending provide an optional 3rd note to fill out the harmony.
